Spring Break Ideas By John 'Bluto' Blutarsky
Dear Bluto,
My college is full of corrupt students. Now they are about to go off campus for a festival of debauchery otherwise known as Spring Break. We want to try to reach them for Christ before they head to the beach and turn it into some type of tropical Sodom and Gomorrah. We have this really cool sunrise service planned for Easter, but we have not yet gotten many RSVPs back from folks. Do you have any idea how we can get folks to come and worship with us? We are also thinking about going down to Clearwater or St. Pete's do do outreach during spring break. Do you think we could get Steve to come and help us since he lives over in Tampa?

HUH???? You are kidding right? You think the way to serve college kids is to hold a sunrise worship service? Are you on drugs? What planet were you hatched on? The first rule of Servant Evangelism is to show God's love in a P-R-A-C-T-I-C-A-L way! Do you really need me to explain why asking the average college student (not even the hardcore party crowd--just Joe Textbook) to get up anytime before 10:00 AM when a grade is not involved is a really lame idea? You said it was a sunrise worship service? Are you going to sing Kumbaya? Here let me help you with your music selection, because that will make all the difference:
Look. If you want to reach the college crowd, you need to think about helping them with Spring Break. Whatever you can do to serve those that were not able to afford to go to the beach this year and have a blast will be a huge investment in the kingdom. If I were you, I would look into who is staying behind on campus and treat them to an awesome party. You can venture over to Kindness Resources for some suggestions on how to throw a block party or other type of big community event and adapt it to your audience. One thing is for sure. Don't ask them to get out of bed to hear anyone talk or sing before the sun comes up!
For those leaving campus, think about putting together Spring Break survival kits and giving them away free. Just do some brainstorming on what college kids might forget to pack (hint toiletries and other medical items) and load them up as they leave town. Then help them integrate back into the "quiet" academic community when they return. They will most likely be malnourished and have laundry, so anything that involves feeding them or washing them will be a big hit.
